Press Release

Johnny Wore Black and David Ellefson join forces to release first single from debut album ‘Walking Underwater’.

‘Gift of Desperation’ is the eagerly anticipated latest single from Johnny Wore Black and boasts collaboration between UK songwriter/producer Johnny Wore Black and Megadeth’s David Ellefson. Taken from the debut album ‘Walking Underwater’, which will be released early next year, ‘Gift of Desperation’ is a thought provoking dark melodic song where the words and music explore some of the harsh realities of finding a way out of the darkness. David says “I’ve enjoyed a collaboration with Johnny Wore Black in recent years and "Gift of Desperation" is a track that really spoke well to both of us. It's a universal theme that I think anyone can relate to”.

‘Gift of Desperation’ is released to accompany David Ellefson’s biography, ‘My Life With Deth’ (Howard Books/Simon & Schuster, October 29, 2013) which tells of his unflinching story of rock’n’roll excess in one of the world’s best-known bands. It’s an eye-opening account that pulls no punches of his journey from thrash metal legend to Lutheran minister. Megadeth’s history reads like a how-to manual of excess of all kinds. If you’re looking for revelations, they’re here, including the drug habits which brought the band-members to their knees.

London based songwriter/producer Johnny Wore Black is recognised for working with a dynamic line up of musical collaborators. ‘Gift of Desperation’ sees the continued participation between Johnny Wore Black and David Ellefson who have worked together on previous tracks ‘All The Rage’ and ‘Up In Flames’. ‘Gift of Desperation’ is also accompanied by a video which David came to London to shoot. The song was mixed by Grammy award winning producer David Bottrill, and the video was directed by Stephen J Nelson.

‘Gift of Desperation’ is available from iTunes and other good digital retailers.

Critical Acclaim

Check out Noise by Johnny Wore Black. Not only does it come with a terrific, Spongebob-meets-Akira video clip, it boasts a singalong chorus that you'll be humming all day (despite its apocalyptic subject matter!) and a killer, moshpit-worthy mix courtesy of Tool producer David BottrillMusic Week

You won’t hear another vocalist that sounds like this, and the music is a fantastic and fresh sound that clearly expresses the emotion behind the song - Unappreciated Scholars

A prowling and inciting presence which ignites the passions and sets itself up as one of the most addictive and potently lingering tracks to emerge this year so far. A kind of a cross between Stone Sour and SoundgardenRingmaster Review

Cool and dark and a little like Porcupine Tree. I like the melody and moodiness of the song. In short, I look forward to a full album. So far, all three songs have been quality materialA Metal State of Mind

I don't want to over sell this, but "Up In Flames" is simply a class bit of modern rock. It's not metal or hard, but it is rock, it is well produced without being candy flosssed n glossed and it drags in a bit of goth, a bit of euro sleaze, in short, it has one foot in the Nirvana corpse while the other is pointing a well shod toe at that bag of money - Unpeeled

Souped-up with trendy remixes and the four-string savoir faire of Dave Ellefson, this second single previewing Walking Underwater is a rocking, Southern-edged, Tool-toned affair with a lot of marketing clout - Metal Hammer

The track has the same immense presence of Deftones atmospherically fused with the warm elegance of A Perfect Circle, the impactful passion of Tool, and the melodic hunger of a Soundgarden. It is a strikingly impressive sound which feeds all appetites for muscular rock through to powerful and passionate incitement - Ringmaster Review

"Dark and brooding, its poignant message about the physical and emotional sacrifice of our armed forces really hits home" - Music Week Magazine

"A haunting dose of melody and emotion" - A Metal State of Mind
